About Katie: Retired ER physician, Michigan native, and children's book author.

Kate Bosch resides in the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan, where she enjoys hiking the trails of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore with her husband and their schnoodle, Wrigley.  A retired emergency room physician, she is pursuing her dream of writing children's books, particularly those set in the natural world. Katie’s fascination with bears began during a childhood camping trip in northern California, where two bears destroyed their campsite in search of food. Her fear of bears has since faded, but she keeps a safe distance when encountering them in the wild. At home, she is surrounded by a collection of bear-themed items, including artwork, books, and now Mama Sugar Bear.
How does Mama Sugar Bear get her name? After a long winter’s nap, she wakes up hungry and smells something yummy . . .

In this charming tale inspired by a true story, Mama Sugar Bear and her two cubs become unlikely friends with a park ranger after Mama steals and devours a bag of sugar from a local chocolate shop. The ranger encourages the bears to explore Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore’s natural bounty of berries, fish, and honey.
